Ekiden-Marathon
Ekiden-Marathon
The Ekiden-Marathon starts on the Münsterplatz and then goes into Rittergasse. After about one kilometer, passing Bäumleingasse, Freie Strasse and the St. Alban Graben, the runners cross the Wettsteinbrücke. They continue from the Theodorskirchplatz, passing Kartausgasse and Riehentorstrasse down to the Rhine, which all runners follow to the Mittlere Brücke – enjoying the great panoramic view of the old town.

This short piece of route is also part of the marathon and half marathon, so ekiden runner get the chance to breathe some “marathon air”. Shortly before arriving at the bridge, participants will have to take a right turn into Wilde-Ma Gässli, followed by a left turn into Rheingasse. Another sharp left turn takes runners bake to the Mittlere Brücke, where they have time to prepare for the challenging climb up the Rheinsprung. This climb up to the Münsterplatz, where the transition area is situated, isn’t very long, but there are a few meters of alltitude to conquer. The final runner does not turn to the Rheinsprung on the Mittlere Brücke, but runs straight ahead to the Marktplatz. Hopefully, the finisher’s team mates and all spectators will welcome the runner by cheering at their best.
